With rural New Zealand in my blood and mountains & trout rivers at my doorstep my passion for the outdoors in particular fishing developed at an early age. At the age of nine I held a fly rod for the first time, making those first few casts while fishing the Otaki River. My first ever trout soon followed, a red spotted brownie lured from under the willows on the Otaki. My first rainbow a spring creek fish that rose to a dry fly while fishing the evening rise on a small Waikato stream. The lure of NZ's Taupo waters soon became a fascination in those early years & frequent fishing trips began to internationally renowned rivers like the Tongariro, one memorable moment a five pound Tongariro rainbow on my second cast ever in these waters. Overseas fishing experience has since included fly-fishing in British Columbia Canada for Lake Kamloops rainbows & Nimpkish River steelhead. In 1995 my fly fishing career reached a new peak when my wife Tina, our two children & I moved to Lake Taupo in the central North Island of New Zealand. It was here I joined the team at ' Chris Jolly Outdoors ' working as a professional fly fishing guide. Guiding guests from New Zealands world class retreat' Huka Lodge' took on a whole new challenge, a new adventure had began.
In 1998 I established my own fly fishing business, guiding experienced and novice anglers from both through out New Zealand and around the world. Developing an intimate knowledge of the Taupo region and its surrounding wilderness rivers has ensured the success of my business, a quality experience for my clients being the emphasis. Today a fly fishing guide in the Taupo region for twenty four years, my passion for fishing small streams & wilderness rivers still remains. I view being a fly fishing guide as a priviledge with the opportunity to create possibly the highlight of your New Zealand visit. Over the winter months I also work when required for the ' Department of Conservation ' who manage the Taupo fishery. My work here involves relief ranger duties on the Taupo rivers and fish trap operations that help monitor the health of the Taupo Fishery. As a member of the ' New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association ', I will strive to ensure that your trout fishing experience is a memorable one. Come join me for a fishing trip durring a season of your choice,...Come visit my World.
